
Personal:
Jack Cherry became of counsel to the firm in October 1995. Prior to joining Alverson, Taylor, Mortensen & Sanders Jack was a senior partner at a major tort and insurance defense firm in Las Vegas for 22 years. Jack specializes in civil litigation, products liability, truck and transportation defense work. More recently, Jack has included mediation of cases in the foregoing areas in his practice. He obtained extensive mediation training at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University School of Law, and at the Institute for Conflict Management’s Mediation Certification Course.
Jack received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nevada in 1954, after which he served two years in the United States Army as a tank company officer and Company Commander. Following his military service, Jack attended the University of Southern California Law School and received his law degree in 1959. After graduation, Jack obtained employment as a Deputy District Attorney for Clark County, and in 1960 he was appointed District Attorney, serving in that position for approximately two years.
Jack is an active member in many professional organizations including the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA); ALFA International; Clark County Bar Association; State Bar of Nevada; American Bar Association; Defense Research Institute (DRI); Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC); National Tank Truck Carriers Association; Transportation Lawyers Association; and Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA). As a seminar presenter, he has spoken many times on the topic of truck and transportation law issues. Jack has an AV rating with Martindale Hubbell.
Jack was born and raised in Goldfield, Nevada and has lived in Las Vegas since 1942. He enjoys golfing, movies, and traveling.
